Taixi Elementary School was founded on April 1, 1912 as "海口厝公學校" during Japanese rule, opening with 80 first-graders. As the township's oldest and namesake school, it celebrated its centennial in 2012 by converting its library into an "Ocean Arts Hall," a space celebrating the coastal identity of the community it serves. In 2015, the school also established Yunlin County's first campus dog shelter and rescue center.
臺西國小創立於1912年(明治45年/大正元年)4月1日,初名「海口厝公學校」,首屆招收80名一年級新生。作為台西鄉歷史最悠久、以鄉名命名的學校,2012年適逢建校百週年,學校將圖書館改建為「海洋藝術館」,展現沿海社區的獨特身分。2015年,學校更成立雲林縣首座校園犬收容暨救援中心。
