Taiping Junior High School

Taiping Junior High School began in 1966 as a branch campus of Shalu Junior High School before becoming fully independent the following year. Its original campus suffered severe damage in the devastating 921 earthquake of 1999, and the school was rebuilt with assistance from the Tzu Chi Foundation, relocating to a new campus in 2002. That shared experience of quake damage and post-disaster rebuilding links Taiping Junior High to several other schools across the district that endured the same earthquake.

太平國中於民國55年（1966年）以沙鹿國中分部之姿設立，隔年（1967年）正式獨立設校。原校舍在民國88年（1999年）的921大地震中嚴重受損，後在慈濟基金會的協助下重建，於民國91年（2002年）遷至新校址。這段震損與重建的共同經歷，也讓太平國中與太平地區其他同樣歷經921地震的學校，有著相似的集體記憶。
