A study hall that grew into a century-old school.
Side Elementary traces its roots to 1916, when local gentry figure Lin Jinshun founded a private study hall to educate children in the area. Over more than a century, that study hall grew into today's public elementary school, whose campus straddles the boundary between Wufeng and neighboring Wuri District. Few schools in the area can claim as continuous a link to the community-organized education of Taiwan's early twentieth century.
