From near-closure to a nationally known arts school.

Niaosong Junior High is one of Yunlin's most remarkable school turnaround stories. By 2010, enrollment at this small rural junior high had fallen to just 38 students, putting it at real risk of closure. Rather than shutting its doors, the school partnered with the Yunlin Traditional Education Foundation and reinvented itself around classical arts education, becoming Taiwan's first "publicly-funded, privately-managed" (公辦民營) art junior high in 2013. The transformation succeeded: on August 1, 2019, Niaosong merged with Mailiao Senior High's art experimental class to form Niaosong Arts Senior High School, now enrolling roughly 420 students — including students from across Taiwan and abroad.
