Hean Elementary was founded in September 1952 as the "Shuilin National Elementary School Xixi Branch," serving families along the Beigang River in western Shuilin Township. In 1968 it was renamed Hean — literally "river safety" — a name reflecting its location beside the river's flood-prevention embankment. As of August 2016, the school operates as a branch campus of Shuicanlin Elementary School, continuing to serve local children under Shuicanlin's administration.
和安國小創立於民國41年（1952年）9月，最初為「水林國小西溪分班」，服務北港溪西側水林鄉西側的居民。民國57年（1968年）更名為「和安」，取「河流安瀾」之意，呼應學校緊鄰堤防道路的地理位置。自民國105年（2016年）8月起，學校成為水燦林國小和安分校，由水燦林國小統籌行政運作，持續服務地方學童。
