Pingxi District's very first school.
Shifen Elementary opened in 1916 as a branch of Nuannuan Public School, making it the first school established anywhere in what is now Pingxi District. It became an independent school under the name "Shifendiao Public School" by 1922. The campus sits right beside Shifen Waterfall — Taiwan's widest waterfall — and the town's sky-lantern release grounds, placing generations of its students at the literal center of what is now the country's most photographed festival site.
