Shanglin Elementary School

Shanglin Elementary began in 1955 as a branch of Ganlin Elementary School, becoming independent in 1963. Its enrollment history directly mirrors Shuangxi's rise and fall as a coal-mining community: the school produced a peak of 76 graduates in 1977 during the coal-mining boom, then saw enrollment collapse to just 13 students by 2014 as the mines closed and the population dwindled. Rather than fade away, the school reinvented itself as an "Arts Star" school, building programs in ukulele and taiko drumming, and won New Taipei's top arts-school award in 2015.

上林國小於民國44年（1955年）以柑林國小分校形式設立，民國52年（1963年）獨立設校。學校的招生歷史，正是雙溪礦業興衰的縮影：民國66年（1977年）採礦全盛時期，畢業生曾一度多達76人，但隨著礦業沒落、人口外流，到民國103年（2014年）在校生僅剩13人。學校並未因此沒落，反而轉型為「藝術之星」學校，發展烏克麗麗與太鼓等特色課程，並於2015年獲得新北市藝術教育類最高榮譽。
