The founding school of Shalu's secondary education.
Shalu Junior High opened in 1961 as the district's first junior high school, initially taking over six wooden classrooms from Shalu Elementary School. As Shalu's population grew rapidly through the 1960s to 1980s, the school became so overcrowded that it eventually spun off two new junior highs — Beishi and Luliao — to absorb the overflow. Today it remains the founding institution of secondary education in the district.

🌳 The Mother School of Two Others
分設出兩所國中的母校
As Shalu boomed between the 1960s and 1980s, overcrowding at Shalu Junior High led directly to the founding of both Beishi and Luliao Junior Highs.

As the oldest junior high in the district, Shalu Junior High anchors the history of secondary education for the whole area.
A record of postwar growth.
Shalu Junior High's crowded decades are a direct record of the district's rapid postwar population growth — a boom so fast that one school's overflow became the seed of two more, a pattern repeated across Shalu's education history. See the Taichung county page for more on the region.
