The mother school of a district's education system.

Sanchong Elementary School opened on April 1, 1922, under Japanese colonial rule as "Erchongpu Public School Sanchongpu Branch Classroom" (二重埔公學校三重埔分教場). After Taiwan's retrocession in 1945 it was renamed Sanchong National School, and it took its present name in 1968. Over the course of the 20th century, the school spun off four other Sanchong elementary schools — Sanguang in 1951, Zhengyi in 1958, Houde in 1963, and Guangrong in 1975 — earning its reputation as the district's founding "mother school." Some of its older buildings were demolished in 1996 and again in 2012 after chloride-contamination ("sea sand" concrete) findings.

Opening in 1922 as a Japanese-era branch classroom, the school has operated continuously through Taiwan's retrocession and its modern renaming in 1968.

Older buildings were demolished in 1996 and 2012 after chloride-contamination findings, part of a broader effort across Taiwan to address "sea sand" concrete.

As Sanchong's original public elementary school dating to the Japanese colonial era, its repeated subdivisions map directly onto the district's explosive 20th-century population growth from farmland into a dense Taipei suburb. See the New Taipei county page for more on the region.
