The school began in 1934 in Taipei as the "Civil Engineering and Surveying Technician Training Institute" (土木測量技術員養成所), co-founded by Hatta Yoichi, the engineer famed for designing the Chianan Canal. It relocated to Ruifang in 1948, becoming a national institution in 2000 and a New Taipei municipal school in 2013. Throughout its history, the school has trained generations of local youth for the mechanical, electrical, and mining trades that once powered Ruifang's coal and gold industries.
學校於1934年創立於臺北,初名「土木測量技術員養成所」,由以嘉南大圳聞名的工程師八田與一共同創辦。1948年遷至瑞芳,2000年改制為國立,2013年改為新北市立。長期以來,學校培育瑞芳地方青年投入機械、電機與礦業等技術行業,支撐了當地的煤金產業發展。
