Ruifang Elementary was founded in 1901, predating even the gold-rush boom of Jiufen and Jinguashi, making it the educational taproot of the whole district. Over the following decades, four other schools — Jiufen, Guashan, Ruibin, and Ruigan Elementary — all began as branches of Ruifang Elementary before becoming independent, making it the parent school for much of the district's public education system.
