清泉國中創立於民國57年（1968年），校址鄰近清水海岸，坐落於這個長期以漁業與濱海生活為特色、面向台灣海峽的區域。自民國82年（1993年）起，學校獲指定為全國拳擊發展重點學校，並設有劍道與自行車代表隊，形成校內鮮明的體育特色。
