Puyan Junior High traces its founding to a preparatory committee formed in July 1963, under Changhua County's December 1960 policy of establishing one junior middle school per township. Its first classes began on September 6, 1963, temporarily held in the Puyan Farmers' Association building, with just 2 classes and 84 students. The school officially opened as Puyan Junior Middle School on August 8, 1964, and was renamed Puyan Junior High School in 1968 as it became a comprehensive school. A new campus building was completed in December 2017, and the school today fields strong judo, handball, and dragon boat teams.
埔鹽國中的籌設可追溯至民國52年（1963年）7月成立的籌備委員會，源於彰化縣民國49年（1960年）12月公布的「一鄉鎮一國中」政策。首屆於民國52年9月6日開學，暫借埔鹽鄉農會辦公室上課，僅有2班、84名學生。學校於民國53年（1964年）8月8日正式成立為埔鹽初級中學，並於民國57年（1968年）改制為埔鹽國民中學。新校舍於民國106年（2017年）12月完工，學校在柔道、手球、龍舟等項目上表現優異。
