From farmland edge to independent school.
Puqian Elementary traces back to 1956, when it opened as a branch campus of Banqiao Elementary School; it became a fully independent school on 1 August 1960. The name 埔墘, meaning "edge of the plain," recalls the school's original setting on the agricultural fringe of old Banqiao, long before the area filled in with housing.

A name that remembers the plain's edge.
The name 埔墘, "edge of the plain," is a linguistic fossil of Banqiao's farmland past — before postwar urban sprawl swallowed the fields, this was literally the boundary land at the edge of the cultivated plain. See the New Taipei county page for more on the region.
