Peiying Junior High School was founded in 1956 as "新竹縣立新竹第二女子初級中學," a girls' junior high school. In 1957, it relocated to the former site of the Japanese-era Dongshan Elementary School. The school was renamed "新竹縣立培英國民中學" in 1968, becoming co-educational, and was renamed again to "新竹市立培英國民中學" in 1982 when Hsinchu City became a provincial city. Today it sits adjacent to National Hsinchu Senior High School, sharing in the East District's identity as a historic schooling hub.
培英國中創校於1956年(民國45年),初名「新竹縣立新竹第二女子初級中學」。1957年遷至日治時期東山國小的舊址。1968年改名為「新竹縣立培英國民中學」,並改為男女兼收。1982年新竹市升格為省轄市後,再度更名為「新竹市立培英國民中學」。如今學校緊鄰新竹高中,同屬東區歷史悠久的學府聚落。
