From teacher's college to research university.
National Changhua University of Education (NCUE) was formally established in 1971 as the Taiwan Provincial College of Education, at a time when Taiwan needed a dedicated institution to train secondary-school teachers. It was renamed twice — in 1980 and again in 1989 — before taking its current name and status as a national university. Today NCUE spans two campuses near Changhua Railway Station (Jin-De and Bao-Shan) and has grown well beyond its teacher-training roots into a comprehensive research university with seven colleges.
