Nanyang Elementary School was founded in 1943, during the final years of Japanese rule, and took its present name in 1947 after Taiwan's retrocession. As Fengyuan's residential neighborhoods expanded explosively in the postwar decades, so did the school — it now has the largest single-year student enrollment of any elementary school in Taichung City.
南陽國小創立於1943年（日治時期），台灣光復後於民國36年（1947年）更名為現名。隨著豐原戰後住宅區的爆炸性擴張，本校規模也隨之成長，如今是全台中市單一年級招生人數最多的國小。
