Nanliao Elementary was founded on March 31, 1918, as a branch school under founding director Xu Sanquan. It became independent in 1921 as "舊港公學校" (Jiugang Public School), and was renamed "南寮國民學校" in 1941. With over 100 years of history, the school sits next to Nanliao Fishing Harbor, one of Hsinchu's best-known seafood and beach destinations, giving generations of students a close relationship with the sea.
南寮國小創校於民國7年（1918年）3月31日，初期為分校形式，首任主事為許三泉。民國10年（1921年）獨立設校，命名為「舊港公學校」，民國30年（1941年）更名為「南寮國民學校」。學校已有百年以上歷史，緊鄰南寮漁港——新竹知名的海鮮與海濱景點，讓一代代學生與大海有著緊密的連結。
