Nangang Elementary began in August 1962 as a branch campus of Puyan Elementary School, becoming a fully independent school in August 1975 under founding principal Xu Lantian. The school is celebrating its 50th anniversary of independence in 2025. A small, close-knit campus in Nangang Village, it has built a distinctive identity around taiko drumming, the arts, and a dedicated food-and-agriculture curriculum, with students also competing nationally in Cool English, martial arts, and Go.

南港國小於民國51年(1962年)8月,最初作為埔鹽國小的分校,並於民國64年(1975年)8月在創校校長許蘭田的帶領下正式獨立設校。學校於2025年慶祝獨立設校50週年。這所座落於南港村的小型學校,發展出以太鼓、藝術與食農教育為特色的辦學方向,學生也在Cool English、武術與圍棋等項目上屢獲全國性佳績。
