A century of service, twice rebuilt.
Heping Elementary was founded in 1920 under Japanese rule and is reputedly the oldest school located south of Taichung's rail line, reflecting South District's position as an earlier-developed flank of the city. The school celebrated its 100th anniversary, was rebuilt in 1997, suffered further damage in the 1999 921 earthquake, and completed a second reconstruction in 2000 — a full century of continuous service through repeated rebuilding.
