From a village meeting hall to a full campus.
Mingzheng Elementary began in 1952 as a branch of Shicheng Elementary School, with classes initially held in a single wooden classroom inside a village meeting hall starting in 1954. It became an independent school in 1961 and was rebuilt in reinforced concrete in 1971. Its modest, grassroots beginnings reflect how many of Dongshi's smaller hamlets built out schooling for their children in the postwar decades.

Schooling built from the ground up.
Mingzheng Elementary's origin in a village meeting hall's single wooden classroom is a vivid example of how Dongshi's smaller hamlets built schooling for their children from the ground up in the postwar era. See the Taichung county page for more on the region.
