Minfu Elementary traces its founding to 1916, when the girls' division of Hsinchu Public School was spun off as an independent school, "新竹女子公學校." It was renamed "新竹第四公學校" in 1940 and moved to its current site in the Xinfu-cho neighborhood in 1941. The school took its present name, "新竹市立民富國民小學," in 1982, and is reported to be Hsinchu City's largest elementary school today, located near the Hsinchu baseball stadium.
民富國小創校可追溯至民國5年（1916年），由新竹公學校的女子部獨立設校，命名為「新竹女子公學校」。民國29年（1940年）更名為「新竹第四公學校」，民國30年（1941年）遷至現址「新富町」。民國71年（1982年）定名為「新竹市立民富國民小學」，據稱是目前新竹市規模最大的國小，校址鄰近新竹棒球場。
