Over 125 years old, and keeper of an old place name.
Luzhou Elementary traces its roots to 1897, when it opened as the "Hoshanchiu Branch Teaching Site" (和尚洲分教場) — using the district's original Han-settlement name, meaning roughly "Monk's Sandbar," which recalled Luzhou's origins as a river-sandbar settlement along the Tamsui River. It held its first graduation ceremony in 1903 and, at well over 125 years old, is one of the oldest schools in the district, predating Luzhou's modern place name by decades.

Its founding name, "Hoshanchiu Branch Teaching Site," preserves Luzhou's old place name meaning "Monk's Sandbar," referencing its river-settlement origins.
Named for a sandbar on the Tamsui River.
Luzhou Elementary's founding under the name "和尚洲" (Monk's Sandbar) preserves Luzhou's old place-name, referencing the area's origins as a Tamsui River sandbar settlement long before it became a dense Taipei-commuter suburb. See the New Taipei county page for more on the region.
