Liyuan Elementary was established in 1989, with enrollment beginning in 1991, making it one of the first schools built specifically for the initial wave of Linkou New Town residents in the late 1980s. The school grew rapidly alongside the new town, reaching 66 classes at its peak by 2006. It established a children's choir and wind band in 1991 and added a string ensemble in 2002, building a strong music tradition from its earliest years.
麗園國小創立於民國78年(1989年),民國80年(1991年)開始招生,是專為1980年代末期林口新市鎮首波遷入居民興建的最早學校之一。學校隨新市鎮快速成長,於2006年全盛時期曾達66個班級。學校於民國80年(1991年)成立兒童合唱團與管樂團,民國91年(2002年)再增設弦樂團,自創校初期便建立起深厚的音樂傳統。
