Kouhu Junior High began in August 1965 as a branch of Shuilin Junior High School, becoming a fully independent school in August 1968. Located at the northern edge of the Chianan Plain, right up against the Taiwan Strait, the school serves as the main secondary school for Kouhu Township — a coastal community whose economy has long centered on aquaculture.
口湖國中於民國54年（1965年）8月以「水林國中口湖分部」設立，民國57年（1968年）8月正式獨立設校。學校位於嘉南平原北端，緊鄰台灣海峽，是口湖鄉的主要國民中學，服務這個長期以養殖漁業為經濟命脈的沿海鄉鎮。
