Kouhu Elementary traces its origins to April 15, 1918, when it began as a Japanese-era branch teaching site. Over the following century, it grew into the anchor of basic education across the township — so much so that it is considered the "mother school" (母校) of Kouhu's education system, with five of the township's ten elementary schools tracing their institutional lineage back to this original campus. Renamed to its current form in 1968, the school today continues to serve as a foundational institution for the coastal community.
口湖國小的歷史可追溯至大正7年（1918年）4月15日，最初為日治時期的教育所。歷經一個世紀的發展，本校成為口湖鄉基礎教育體系的核心，被視為地方教育的「母校」——鄉內十所國小中，有五所皆源自本校體系分出。學校於民國57年（1968年）更為現名，至今持續作為這個沿海鄉鎮的重要教育基石。
