Jiqing Elementary began in 1951 as a branch classroom of Ruiting Elementary, serving Ji'an village in Ruifang's Sijiaoting area. It became an independent school a decade later, in 1961. The village was once a busy staging point along the rail line that hauled coal out of Ruifang's mountain mines.
