Jianping Elementary School began as a branch in 1988 and became fully independent in 1991. Its school district covers the Jianguo, Jianxing, and Ping'an communities, newer subdivisions that emerged as Taiping urbanized in the late 1980s. The school was renamed following Taiping's 1996 upgrade to a county-administered city, and again after the 2010 Taichung city-county merger.
建平國小於民國77年（1988年）以分校設立，民國80年（1991年）正式獨立設校。學區涵蓋建國、建興、平安等社區，均為太平區在1980年代後期都市化過程中新興的社區。學校曾因太平於民國85年（1996年）改制為縣轄市而更名，並在民國99年（2010年）台中縣市合併後再次更名。
