Zhongxi Elementary School was founded in 1922 as a satellite classroom of Huwei Public School, under Japanese colonial administration. It became independent as Guoxizai Public School in 1931, and was renamed Zhongxi Elementary School in 1947 after Taiwan's retrocession. With over a century of institutional history, the school stands among Huwei's oldest, its long life running parallel to the rise of the Huwei Sugar Refinery.
中溪國小創立於1922年（大正11年），最初為虎尾公學校的分教場，屬日治時期教育體系。1931年獨立設校，更名為過溪仔公學校；1947年台灣光復後再改名為中溪國小。學校校史超過百年，是虎尾鎮歷史最悠久的學校之一，其發展歷程與虎尾糖廠的興起相互輝映。
