Huwei Elementary School was founded in 1918 as a branch classroom of Tuku Public School, becoming independent as Huwei Public School in 1921. In 2018, the school celebrated its 100th anniversary with about 2,000 alumni in attendance. As the original parent school from which Zhongzheng, Pinghe, and Liren elementary schools all later split, Huwei Elementary's century-plus history runs parallel to the rise of the Huwei Sugar Refinery.
