A century of history rooted in a sugar town.
Hunan Elementary was founded on April 1, 1921, during the Japanese colonial era, as "溪湖尋常小學校" — a school originally established for the children of workers at the nearby Meiji Sugar Company refinery in Xihu. Renamed several times over the following decades, it took its present name, Hunan Elementary School, in 1968. In April 2021 the school celebrated its 100th anniversary with a special postal cachet issued in cooperation with Chunghwa Post, complete with two ten-tier birthday cakes for the occasion.
