It describes itself as a ‘legendary forest school in the mountains,’ and although it is administratively part of Taiping District, the school can only be reached by road through neighboring Dali District.
黃竹國小創立於民國55年（1966年），至今仍是規模極小的學校，全校僅約18名學生，橫跨五個年級。學校自稱為「山中傳奇森林小學」，雖然行政區劃上隸屬太平區，但實際上必須經由鄰近的大里區道路才能抵達。
