A school old enough to have witnessed Hsinchu's entire modern history.

Hsinchu Elementary traces its roots to 1896, when a Japanese-era language school (新竹國語傳習所) held classes at the old Mingzhi Academy — one of the earliest such schools established after Japan took control of Taiwan. The school moved to the former Hsinchu Confucius Temple site in 1906, and then to its current location in 1937. The historic "Bailing Building" (百齡樓), built during that 1937 move, still stands on campus today as a protected cultural monument. The school took its present name, Hsinchu City Hsinchu National Elementary School, in 1982.
