About · 學校簡介

Built by a community, out of disaster.

Hedong Elementary was founded in 1960 in the aftermath of the devastating "87 Flood," when public donations funded the construction of classrooms by the township office. The school held its first graduation ceremony in July 1963, and was renamed "Hedong National Elementary School" in 1968 with the implementation of nine-year compulsory education. Today the campus covers about 32,112 square meters, including administrative and teaching buildings, a library, indoor and outdoor athletic fields, and an activity center.

💧

Hedong Elementary's origin story is tied directly to the "87 Flood" (八七水災) of 1960, one of Taiwan's most devastating natural disasters — the school itself was built through public donations in its aftermath. Its wide school district, spanning Hedong, Zhuying, Ganjing, and part of Touqian villages, reflects its role as an anchor for several neighborhoods near Changhua City, Lugang, Xianxi, and Shengang. See the Changhua county page for more on the region.
