A rural pocket of Hsinchu City, given over to ecology and music.
Shuiyuan Elementary was established in 1977 within a designated water-source protection zone on the edge of Hsinchu City, an area that has preserved a small rural and farming landscape even as the city has grown around it. The school's curriculum centers on ecology — students take part in rice planting, vegetable growing, and chicken raising alongside local farmers. Its Chinese orchestra has won the national top honor eight times, and a teacher-student micro-documentary from the school won first prize in the Ministry of Education's inaugural Education Golden Image Award.

💧 Set Inside a Water-Source Protection Zone
Because the school sits within a protected water-source zone at the edge of the city, it has preserved a small rural, farming landscape rarely found elsewhere in urban Hsinchu.
Farming traditions, protected by policy.
Shuiyuan Elementary works closely with the neighboring Shuiyuan (水源里) and Qianjia (千甲里) communities, weaving local farming traditions and water-cycle and ecological education into daily school life alongside village residents. See the Hsinchu City county page for more on the region.
