From a 9,000-student peak to a media studio.
Haishan Elementary was founded in January 1979 under its first principal, Zhang Yinquan, and grew rapidly to a peak enrollment of more than 9,000 students by 1988 — one of the largest elementary schools in Taiwan at the time. The school has since won a Ministry of Education "Green School Partner" gold medal, and today runs a string orchestra, a science-research team, and an on-campus photography and live-streaming studio.

A name from the old river-plain district.
The name 海山 recalls 海山堡, the Qing-dynasty administrative district covering the greater Banqiao-Tucheng-Shulin river-plain area, preserving a pre-modern regional identity in the school's name. See the New Taipei county page for more on the region.
