Qishan Elementary began in 1947 as a branch classroom of Donghe Elementary in Qipan Village, becoming an independent school in 1952. The campus sits adjacent to the southwest end of the Hushan Reservoir, giving it one of the more scenic settings among Gukeng's schools. The school has built a strong extracurricular identity around music and performance, running a nationally competitive traditional Taiko drum performance team.
