Qishan Elementary began in 1947 as a branch classroom of Donghe Elementary in Qipan Village, becoming an independent school in 1952. The campus sits adjacent to the southwest end of the Hushan Reservoir, giving it one of the more scenic settings among Gukeng's schools. The school has built a strong extracurricular identity around music and performance, running a nationally competitive traditional Taiko drum performance team.

棋山國小於1947年(民國36年)以東和國小在棋盤村的分班形式創立,1952年獨立設校。校園緊鄰虎山水庫西南端,是古坑鄉各校中風景最優美的校址之一。學校在音樂與表演藝術上發展出鮮明特色,擁有一支全國知名的傳統太鼓表演隊。
