Guangzheng Junior High was approved for establishment in 1994 and opened in 1996 to serve Dali's fast-growing residential districts. Following Taichung County and City's 2010 merger, it was renamed "Taichung Municipal Guangzheng Junior High School." The school is recognizable by its distinctive rainbow-themed emblem.
光正國中於民國83年（1994年）獲准設立，民國85年（1996年）開學，為因應大里住宅區快速發展而生。2010年台中縣市合併後更名為「臺中市立光正國民中學」，校徽以彩虹意象著稱。
