From a branch classroom to its own school.
Gongming Elementary began in 1960 as a branch campus of nearby Gongguan Elementary School, established to serve children in the Gongming area of Shalu District. It became a fully independent school in 1968, part of a broader mid-century pattern in which Shalu's rural school districts were subdivided to keep pace with population growth.

🏘️ A Product of Rural Growth
農村人口成長下的分校設立
Its founding reflects Shalu's mid-century pattern of subdividing school districts as rural population grew, a story shared with several neighboring elementary schools.
📍 Rooted in the Gongming Neighborhood
扎根公明社區
The school takes its name from and continues to serve the Gongming area of Shalu District where it was first established.
A pattern of growth across Shalu.
Like several of its neighbors, Gongming Elementary's split from an older parent school traces Shalu's mid-20th-century growth — as rural hamlets filled with families, one classroom became a branch, and one branch eventually became a school of its own. See the Taichung county page for more on the region.
