高美國小創校可追溯至1919年,於民國30年(1941年)正式獨立設校。學校坐落於大甲溪出海口旁,緊鄰著名的高美濕地——一片佔地1,500公頃、吸引全台遊客造訪的潮間帶與候鳥棲息地。近年來,學校彩虹色的跑道也成為當地熱門的打卡地標。
