From two borrowed classrooms to an independent school.
Fangyuan Junior High was established in August 1962 as a branch of Erlin Junior High School, known then as "Erlin Junior High School Fangyuan Branch." It began with just two classes, borrowing space at the Fangyuan Township Office's Zhongshan Hall and at Fangyuan Elementary School. The Taiwan Provincial Government approved its independence on July 20, 1964, and its first principal, Huang Jing, took office on June 18, 1965.
芳苑國中創立於民國51年（1962年）8月，最初是二林初級中學的分部，稱為「二林初級中學芳苑分部」，僅設2個班級，借用芳苑鄉公所中山堂與芳苑國小的空間上課。台灣省政府於民國53年（1964年）7月20日核准獨立設校，首任校長黃景於民國54年（1965年）6月18日到職。
