Over a century on the same ground.

Erchong Elementary School was founded on July 25, 1902, during Japanese colonial rule, as "Xingzhi Public School Touqian Branch Classroom" (興直公學校頭前分教場). It became an independent school in 1912 under the name "Erchongpu Public School," was renamed Erchong National School after Taiwan's 1945 retrocession, and adopted its current name in 1968. The school is designated one of Sanchong's demonstration elementary schools (示範國民小學) and celebrated its centennial in 2001 with a commemorative stele unveiled by then-President Chen Shui-bian, marking more than a century of continuous operation in the same general area.

Rooted in Erchongpu's old place-names.

📍

Its original name referencing "頭前" (Touqian) and later "二重埔" (Erchongpu) ties the school to the historic Han-Chinese settlement place-names of the Erchong floodway area predating modern Sanchong District boundaries. See the New Taipei county page for more on the region.
