A century-old pioneer in girls' education.
Duxing Elementary School was founded in 1918 as "Taichung Girls' Public School" (臺中女子公學校), one of the earliest schools in Taichung established specifically to educate Taiwanese girls during the Japanese colonial era, at a time when formal schooling for girls was far from universal. Now more than a century old, the school has long since become coeducational and today serves as one of North District's most historic educational institutions, having also given rise to at least one branch campus that later became an independent school of its own.

A landmark in girls' education.
Duxing Elementary's founding as a dedicated girls' school in 1918 marks it as an early landmark in the history of female education in Taiwan, at a time when schooling for girls was a deliberate, still-uncommon policy choice under Japanese colonial rule.
