Yunlin Junior High School was founded in 1968. Despite carrying the county's own name, it is very much a local Douliu institution. Construction on a new campus began in 1991 to accommodate development around the newly established National Yunlin University of Science and Technology, and the school completed its relocation in June 1993 — a move directly tied to the county seat's push to build up its higher-education infrastructure.
雲林國民中學創立於民國57年（1968年）。雖然校名與縣名相同，但其實是道地的斗六在地學校。為配合國立雲林科技大學周邊的發展，學校自民國80年（1991年）起興建新校舍，並於民國82年（1993年）6月完成遷校——此舉與縣治積極建設高等教育基礎設施的方向密切相關。
