Chenggong Elementary was founded in 1924 under Japanese rule and celebrated its 100th anniversary in December 2024. Across its century of operation, the school has maintained Hakka mother-tongue instruction for its students, helping preserve the dialect spoken by the Hakka families who originally settled Dongshi's hill country.
