A small school at a real crossroads.
Donghua Junior High opened in 1971 as a small school serving Damaobu, a Hakka village in Dongshi District, along with students traveling down from the indigenous communities of Guguan, Heping District, and Xinshe's Fuxing area. With roughly 160 students today, it remains one of the smaller junior highs in the Taichung system, but its location on the Dajia River makes it a genuine meeting point between Dongshi's Hakka lowland and the mountain communities further upriver.
What makes this school worth knowing.
🏞️ A Gateway on the Dajia River
大甲溪畔的橋樑
The school's location on the Dajia River makes it a literal and social bridge between Dongshi's Hakka lowland and the indigenous mountain communities of Guguan and Heping District further upstream.
🎒 A Small, Close-Knit Campus
小校精神
With roughly 160 students, Donghua is one of the smaller junior highs in the Taichung system, serving a tight-knit mix of Hakka and indigenous families.
🏘️ Serving Damaobu Village
服務大茅埔聚落
Founded in 1971 to serve the Hakka village of Damaobu, the school remains anchored in this small Dongshi community.
A crossroads of two communities.
Donghua Junior High sits at a real crossroads: it serves both the Hakka village of Damaobu and students who travel down the Dajia River valley from the indigenous mountain communities of Guguan, Heping District, and Xinshe's Fuxing area. See the Taichung county page for more on the region.
