Daya Junior High School opened in 1962, becoming the district's first junior high school and, for three decades, its only one, until Dahua Junior High was established in 1992 to share the growing student load. As Daya transformed from a rural scallion-farming township into a satellite urban district of Taichung, Daya Junior High grew alongside it, remaining one of the area's most established schools.
大雅國中創立於民國51年（1962年），是大雅區第一所國中，並在長達三十年間是區內唯一的國中，直到民國81年（1992年）大華國中成立，分擔日益成長的學生人數。隨著大雅從務農的青蔥之鄉逐漸轉型為台中的衛星都市，大雅國中也隨之成長，至今仍是該地區歷史最悠久的學校之一。
