Built for a booming city.
Tatung Junior High was established on August 31, 1982, as Yuanlin's third junior high school, at a time when the city's existing two junior highs could no longer accommodate its rapidly growing population, driven by local commerce and industry. It opened under first principal Tu Chun-mu with just 15 classes and 729 students. Its first campus building, nicknamed "Chunfeng Lou" (春風樓, "Spring Breeze Hall"), was completed in November 1982, and students fully moved in by July 1983. Today Tatung has grown into the largest school in Changhua County, with nearly 70 classes and about 2,000 students and staff.

🏆 The Largest School in the County
全縣規模最大
With nearly 70 classes and roughly 2,000 students and staff, Tatung has grown from a modest 15-class start into the biggest school in all of Changhua County.
🏭 Born of a Boom Town
工商蓬勃下的產物
The school exists because Yuanlin's late-1970s commercial and industrial growth outpaced the capacity of its first two junior highs — a direct product of the city's economic rise.

The school's very first campus building, poetically named "Chunfeng Lou" (Spring Breeze Hall), was completed within months of the school's founding in 1982.
📈 From 729 to Nearly 2,000
從729人到近2,000人
Tatung's growth from 729 founding students to a present-day community of roughly 2,000 traces the broader growth story of Yuanlin City itself.
Yuanlin's industrial and commercial rise.
Tatung's founding directly reflects Yuanlin's rapid industrial and commercial growth in the late 1970s, which drove local demand for a third junior high to serve the city's expanding population. See the Changhua county page for more on the region.
