Tamsui's founding school.
Tamsui Elementary School was founded on September 7, 1896, as the "Tamsui Kokugo Denshūjo" (淡水國語傳習所) — one of the earliest Japanese-language teaching institutes established in Taiwan at the very start of colonial rule. Renamed several times over the following century, it is one of New Taipei City's oldest schools and stands roughly 400 meters from the Tamsui MRT station. As the town's founding school, it is deeply woven into Tamsui's identity as an early treaty port and a site of Taiwan's first modern schooling.
