Danfeng Elementary School opened in 1980 under its first principal, Jian Er-wen. While its own campus was under construction, classes initially borrowed space at nearby Guotai Elementary School. During the 1980s, local philanthropist Zhang Qing-xin funded a scholarship program along with campus facilities, helping the young school establish itself. The school shares its name and origin story with the surrounding Danfeng neighborhood and its MRT station, part of the historically named "十八分坑" area of lower Xinzhuang.
丹鳳國小創立於民國69年（1980年），首任校長為簡而文。創校初期，因校舍仍在興建，學生曾暫借鄰近的國泰國小教室上課。民國70年代，地方仕紳張清馨捐款設立獎學金並協助興建校舍設施，助這所年輕的學校站穩腳步。學校與周邊的丹鳳地區及捷運站同名同源，同屬新莊下菜園俗稱「十八分坑」的區域。
